Bratislava

Here we go! We will arrive by train!

The festival train will leave Prague on September 30, and should arrive at Bratislava’s Main Station at 3 PM. The participants can check in to the hotel, or leave their luggage in the station and join us in the informal program. There are two possibilities: conservative visitors are welcome to the tour through the main sights of Bratislava, while the adventurous ones may enjoy a guided trip to a unique technical monument using the public transport. The whole group will meet again at 7 PM in the Transport Museum, on a ceremonial opening of the festival and the start of the exhibition “Outside the Gallery”. Also featured will be a show of the Přeskopec band.

The festival program will also feature the art intervention by Petra Hudcová near the Main Station, guided tours to artworks in the public space, workshops for children in the Transport Museum, shows of the movies Art on the Outskirts and Outside the Gallery, discussions on the issues of art in the public space, and an afterparty in the Czech Center in Bratislava. During the festival, the Transport Museum will be open for the visitors for free. The audience of the Theme Train will also be offered free admission to the Bratislava City Gallery; on Sunday, there will be the guided tour to the exhibition “Erna the Monumental”. On October 6, the train will move on to Vienna; anyone is welcome to join.

Petra Hudcová

Petra Hudcová was born in Prague, where she lives and works. She tudie dat Leeds Metropolitan University and Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design in London. She has participated in several residencies, including CEAC in Strasbourg, ArtPort in Tel Aviv and Waaw in St Louis, Senegal, and has exhibited her works both in the Czechia and abroad. In her works, Petra Hudcová primarily focuses on the way the space is shaped by social structures of values and power, on the fragmentation of space, the role of symbols, signs and landmarks in creating identities and controlling the public, and on utopian planning as an outcome of the idealistic desire. She’s also interested in the power and meaning of games, their liberating effect and ability to push boundaries on the one hand, and their binding systém of rules on the other. She also explores the anxiety states of humans caught in spatial systems beyond their control, manipulations, and traumas, and questions the perception of reality in well-arranged systems. Recently, her installations have often been designed for public spaces, for active interaction with viewers. Petra Hudcová’s works are usually poetic interpretations of the ideas; as for materials, she often uses random everyday objects, construction materials, or simple chalk drawings or materials and site-specific objects.

Artistic performance

Performers work with textiles and create paths and compositions that reflect the place and routes around the station. Sometimes they stand or move and thus change the whole composition. They cooperate not only with other performers, pedestrians, but also with obstructions that stand in their way. They move in places that are predetermined for them. They use a cover fabric that is normally used on construction sites. They themselves are dressed in colorful uniforms, acting like game pieces. The whole event is a play around the station, a spectacle that can be joined or ignored.
